Hi.

Welcome to Bumblemom. As my name suggestions, I’m bumbling along as best I can as I navigate a new culture, kids, and style.

Grocery Haul #13

Grocery Haul #13

IMG_6105 (1).jpg

It is officially autumn now and time for another Grocery Haul! This one is especially timely because there is all sorts of press about how the problems with international shipping channels are starting to affect prices in the grocery store. There’s even (allegedly) a banana shortage in New Zealand. I have not personally run into any lack of bananas, but that may be luck. From my own twice-weekly shopping trips I can say that I’ve noticed an increase in prices in many goods. Sometimes it isn’t much or it is clearly seasonal as summer produce transitions out. Sometimes I have no idea why the price has gone up as much as it has and it doesn’t seem like it should be due to international shipping issues, though I am far from an expert on such things. On the flip side, it sounds like there is a huge surplus of some items, like tomatoes. One store is selling them for 9¢ a kilogram, which is insane!

This is not a typical shopping trip as we’re having an America’s Cup get together at our house this weekend. I’ve loaded up on noshing foods and beer (one Kiwi and one Italian just to stir up a little friendly/competitive discussion) and expect that our guests will bring things to throw on the BBQ. We’ll also stop by our favorite butcher, St. John’s butchery, for some additional protein for the week.
